On Style, Timelessness, and Why I’m Not Running Toward Maximalism
A look at how textures, silhouettes, and intentional details keep timeless style captivating—without leaning into the noise of maximalism.
If there’s one thing I’ve always believed, it’s that style is deeply personal—an ever-evolving dialogue between who we are, what inspires us, and how we choose to express it. Lately, though, that conversation has been shifting. The resurgence of maximalism, a push toward color, bold patterns, and a more-is-more ethos, has arrived as a direct response to the quiet luxury, capsule wardrobe era that reigned supreme for the past few years.
And I get it—people are craving something different. The “wardrobe staples” of black loafers, white tees and classic blazers have, for some, started to blend together into one seamless mood board of sameness.
But I have to challenge that.
Because for me, this so-called boring trend didn’t stifle my personal style—it refined it. And while many are running toward patterned pieces and bright hues, I find myself leaning further into what has always resonated with me: structure, neutrals, intentionality. Not just minimalism, but depth.
Timelessness, but Make It Yours
The term timeless gets thrown around a lot, and while there’s a general consensus that neutrals, sharp tailoring, and quality shoes in classic styles tend to stand the test of time, the reality is that everyone’s version of timeless is different.
Some people will always feel at home in a crisp white button-down and perfectly worn-in denim. Others will see a boldly printed dress as their forever staple. For me, it’s about refining a wardrobe that is both elevated and effortless—pieces that feel like an extension of my personal taste rather than a reflection of what’s currently trending.
That doesn’t mean ignoring trends altogether. Quite the opposite. A well-curated wardrobe leaves space for evolution—subtle nods to what’s current, woven in with intention. A structured blazer will always be a staple, but maybe it has dramatic shoulder pads. Maybe your classic pumps are swapped for a sculptural heel or one with a beautiful gold metal accent, but still in a color that you know you’ll wear forever. Maybe your everyday coat has a silhouette that feels just a little more unexpected—be it an hourglass waist, longer lapels or built in scarf.
That’s where the magic happens.
These are the details that keep personal style dynamic and intriguing, even when built on a foundation of timelessness.
A Style Philosophy, Not a Set of Rules
At the core of it, fashion is an ongoing experiment. What we wear isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about mood, confidence, and storytelling. Some will find their expression in layers of color and maximalist prints, and some—like me—will continue to find excitement in structure, in depth, in the just right mix of classic and contemporary.
So, while maximalism makes its return and vibrant hues take center stage, I’m staying right where I am. Not because I’m resisting change, but because I’ve found what works for me. And really, isn’t that the whole point?
The Details That Make the Difference
Style is in the subtleties. It’s in the unexpected pairings, the contrast of textures, and the accessories that feel like little signatures. These are the elements I return to again and again—the pieces that make even the most timeless wardrobe feel fresh, personal, and captivating.
Pinstripes & Animal Print
A pairing that feels both classic and bold. Pinstripes are a forever love—bringing subtle complexity to suiting, perfect for everyday wear without ever feeling basic. Animal prints, on the other hand, act as ~bold~ neutrals. They add intrigue to even the simplest look, whether as the focal point or an accent. Zebra, leopard, and snake are my go-to’s, with cowhide adding an unexpected yet refined touch.
Pops of Color
While my wardrobe foundation is rooted in neutrals, I love introducing color through accessories and select clothing pieces. For me, it’s all about strategic impact—red, burgundy, mustard, olive green, and navy are my favorites. These shades feel rich, refined, and pair seamlessly with a neutral base.
Sometimes it’s a full monochrome look—head-to-toe olive or burgundy for that understated yet exquisite statement. Other times, it’s a pop of color in a standout jacket or tailored trouser that shifts the entire mood of an outfit without feeling overpowering.
Right now, I’m also drawn to butter yellow and baby blue as the seasons shift—softer hues that still carry that sophisticated, dare I say, “old money” feel. Whether through shoes, gloves, scarves, purses, or a single standout clothing piece, it’s always about color that complements, not competes. Small doses, big impact.
Structural Pieces
Brooches are a personal favorite—especially vintage ones in gold or silver, making them endlessly versatile. The magic is in the shape: something sculptural, something meaningful. I have a pair of hand-shaped brooches I adore; they feel like wearable art, especially with Schiaparelli redefining this space.
Cuff and collar links are a newer discovery but an instant obsession. Collar links, in particular, I am absolutely captivated by—the structures and textures they add are inherently eye-catching. They bring a necklace-like effect without the obviousness, making it the most double-take worthy final touch to a classic button down.
Shoes can much do more than finish a look—I think we can all agree on that. A statement heel, whether in the form of sculptural architecture or bold metal accents, can completely reframe an outfit. I’m particularly into pleated Saint Laurent pumps right now for the dynamic look they bring. With pony hair making a comeback in footwear, there’s an added layer of texture and intrigue that feels both modern and nostalgic. You can never go wrong with a Jil Sander or Tory Burch shoe, they’re my favorites for metal accents.
Interesting Silhouettes
A great silhouette can easily be the most alluring aspect of an outfit. While I appreciate the simplicity of a well-tailored blazer or trouser, I’m most drawn to designs that push the boundaries. Think Schiaparelli-inspired sculptural shapes, exaggerated shoulders, or asymmetrical lines that turn a basic piece into a statement. These subtle shifts in shape add depth without relying on loud colors or patterns—a quiet kind of drama.
Textures
Texture transforms neutrals from safe to stunning. Leather is a forever staple, but I’ve been especially into the resurgence of pony hair in gloves, bags and shoes. You can never go wrong with satin to add a touch of softness and eye-catching dimension with the way it reflects light. While suede has been everywhere these past few seasons, it’s for good reason. Be it in accessories and all clothing pieces alike, it gives a softer, but regal feel. I also love the contrast of big wool or fur pieces with sheer tops—giving that iconic Saint Laurent vibe. We cannot discuss texture without my Bottega Croc trench coat, a true piece of wearable art that is the epitome of playful sophistication. Leather or sheer gloves can also amplify the simplest silhouettes, adding complexity and contrast both day and night.
Accessories
Belts are an easy way to add texture and structure. I gravitate toward croc-embossed, smooth leather and suede variations for a luxe feel. Prints like snake or leopard can also work as neutrals when styled thoughtfully. Buckles are where things get interesting—a sculptural or oversized buckle can transform a simple silhouette into a statement.
Gloves are a great opportunity to add sophistication and an effortless way to bring in color. I’m obsessed with leather gloves paired with, let’s be real, almost anything for everyday elegance in the fall & winter. My vintage Prada pony hair gloves remain a forever favorite, adding texture and intrigue with zero effort.
Scarves are endlessly versatile—whether tied around the neck, draped over a blazer, or doubled as a hooded/headpiece moment for both warmth and drama. They’re the perfect place to experiment with color, print, or texture, but I’m also really into coats and tops that come with built in scarves for a monochromatic yet compelling look that is effortless both visually and logistically.
Whether it’s quiet luxury or loud statements, true style lives in the in-between—where subtle details speak volumes and timeless choices leave the loudest impression.
P.S. Every great story deserves a great title. And after some time thinking about how I wanted this space to feel—elevated, intentional, worth coming back to—I realized it needed a name that matched the energy. Consider this your official heads-up: something new is coming. A fresh edition, if you will…
